Andrea M. Jones is the owner and sole proprietor of Jones Literary Services. She began freelancing in 1996, following more than fifteen years of doing copywriting (everything from greeting cards to procedure manuals), editing, marketing, and project management work for different employers. She began indexing in 2006, and now focuses on that work. Indexing makes good use of Andrea's language and research skills, as well as her diverse background in editing and proofreading.
Andrea is experienced with Sky Indexing Software, and is committed to producing accurate, comprehensive, and user-friendly indexes. Constantly seeking to improve her skills, she participates in peer review groups, keeps current with trends and developments through reading and research, and regularly attends professional meetings and workshops. Born and raised in Colorado, Andrea grew up camping, reading books, and riding horses. She traveled to England on a 4-H exchange in 1983, and returned to that country for a Junior Year Abroad course during her studies at the University of Colorado. After graduation (summa cum laude), Andrea took a break from academics, working for a year as a horse trainer. She then returned to England yet again, this time taking a Masters of Arts degree in Literary Research. Back in the US, she worked as an associate editor, sales communication coordinator, project manager, freelance coordinator, and copywriter.
In 1996, Andrea left the workplace to begin freelancing and to complete a PhD program in Interdisciplinary Studies. Her dissertation, "A Stranger in this Land," examined nonscientists' points of view on science. In 2001, Andrea and her husband moved to a rural area in central Colorado, where they now live in company with two horses and various species of wildlife. She tempers her indexing, editing, and writing work with outdoor activities such as hiking, gardening, and horseback riding. Andrea is an active volunteer, who has donated time to organizations such as the Boulder Valley Nature Association, the Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas, and the National Parks Service. She currently volunteers with the Royal Gorge Museum and History Center, Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Palliative Care, and the National Weather Service.
